SEZs planned to spur economic activities: Nirupam

Kolkata, Sept 13: The West Bengal goverment has planned to set up special economic zones to spur economic activities in the state, Commerce and Industry Minister Nirupam Sen said.

The proposed SEZs include a chemical SEZ on 10000 acres of land at Nandigram and Haldia, Sen said.

The state has also planned a multi-product SEZ at Haldia over 12500 acres of land, a pharma SEZ over an area of 3000 acres of land at Haldia and a multi-product SEZ at Siliguri over 2,500 acres of land, Sen said.

The state has also planned set up single product SEZs each on 100 hectares of land in different underdeveloped districts of the state, he said.

Apart from spurring economic activities and generating employment the SEZs would improve infrastructural facilties around the region, he said.

He was speaking at the CII sponsored saminar on  "Logistic-East".
