Security failure led to blasts: Basu

Kolkata, Sep 13 (UNI) Veteran CPI (M) leader Jyoti Basu today blamed intelligence failure for the Malegaon blasts, warning that similar incidents could happen in West Bengal too.

''There was failure of the intelligence, '' he told reporters reacting to the Malegaon blasts, in which 37 people were Rilled.

''We must take lessons from the blast and be careful here too (West Bengal). It can happen here also, '' he said after attending the two-day CPI (M) Polit Bureau meeting that ended today.

To a question, Mr Basu said he was unhappy with the performance of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the Centre, enjoying outside support from the Left parties.

''I am not quite satisfied, '' he said in a terse reply to a question.

Later, party General Secretary Prakash Karat told reporters that they would meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh after his return from the NAM summit in Havana to know about the Government's reply to the assessment the Left parties had made on the UPA Government's performance.

Kazakh leader says still intends to chair OSCE

Puskas in intensive care-agency

BUDAPEST, Sep 13 (Reuters) Hungarian soccer great Ferenc Puskas has been taken into intensive care in hospital, state news agency MTI reported today without giving any details. Puskas, 79, has been in hospital with form of Alzheimer's disease for six years and no one from his family or the hospital could be reached immediately for comment, although his biographer Gyorgy Szollosi confirmed the agency's report. Coastguard rescues 12 fishermen stranded off Morjim beach

Panaji, Sep 13 (UNI) The Coastguard rescued twelve fishermen who were stranded on a rocky terrain in two boats off the Morjim beach in north Goa today. The fishermen were later handed over to the fisheries association safely, according to the coastguard officials. On an alert, a patrolling vessel and a helicopter rushed to the spot. The helicopter had lowered an expert diver on one of the stranded boats and guided them to safety. UNI.....
