Sankaran quits from DIC (K), to return to Congress

Kozhikode, Sep 13 (UNI) Democratic Indira Congress (K) General Secretary P Sankaran today announced his decision to quit the party and rejoin the parent Congress party in protest against the proposed merger of the DIC (K) with the Nationalist Congress Party.

''I have no option but to quit the party'' against the move to merge it with the NCP, which is aligned with ''communal'' Shiv Sena on various issues, he told newspersons persons here.

Stating that he and many other colleagues joined the DIC (K) floated by senior leader K Karunakaran as he adhered to Congress culture throughout, he said ''we cannot tolerate the move to allign with the NCP.'' Describing NCP chief Sharad Pawar as opportunistic, Mr Sankaran said he had not aligned with the communal parties but switched loyalty many times in the past for his personal gain.

He said Mr Karunakaran was a member of the CWC, which took the decision to expel Mr Pawar from the party for criticising the Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi as a foreigner, he added.

Party district vice president Gopalakrishan and many top leaders were also present at th press meet.

World space week celebration from Oct 10
