Rupee gains 10 p, closes at Rs 46.18/19

Mumbai, Sep 13: Rupee today grew strong by ten paise to close up at Rs 46.18/19 per US dollar as compared to Rs 46.27/28 per USD on Tuesday as crude oil prices weakened globally, giving hopes to counter inflation, a trader in the money market said.

Earlier, the domestic currency opened at Rs 46.26/27 per USD and during the mid-morning session traded at 46.32/33 per USD.

RBI today fixed the reference rate at Rs 46.22 per USD as compared to the previous rate of 46.34 per USD yesterday.

The six-month forward premia was fixed low at 1.37 per cent and the one-year forward premia was also fixed low at 1.36 per cent.

The rupee, however, showed an improved performance against other currencies. In comparison to Euro, the rupee closed up at Rs 58.56 (58.75), against Pound Sterling it was down at Rs 86.59 (86.56) and against Yen it closed up at Rs 39.25 (39.30).

Govt launches Micro-pension scheme for Bihar milk producers
