Respite from wet conditions in HP

Shimla, Sep 12 (UNI) Rains lashed isolated places in Kangra and Kullu districts of Himachal Pradesh, while the residents of other areas had respite from wet conditions during the last 24 hours, the met office today said.

Barring 16.8 mm rainfall at Palampur, 13.2 mm at Dharamshala and 6.4 mm at Solang Nullah in Kullu district, the remaining mid and lower hills received no rainfall till 0830 hrs.

The met office said Dhundi and Bhang Manali, both in Kullu district, also recorded 1.2 and 0.2 mm of rainfall.

The sky was clear over the districts of Kinnuar, Lahaul Spiti and Chamba with no report of any rain or snowfall during the last 24 hours.

However, the day and night temperatures in the state witnessed a drop of few degrees in the last few days with Patsio in Lahaul Spiti district and Kalpa in Kinnuar district recording night temperature of three degrees C and 8.2 degrees Celsius respectively.

The sky was cloudy over Shimla and other adjoining areas after a bright sunny morning and people took their woollens to face the cold mornings and evenings.

The state capital recorded a night temperature of 14.4 degrees Celsius, while Sundernagar and Bhuntar recorded minimum temperatures of 19.2 degress and 18 degrees C respectively.

Anti-naxal encounter reported in K'taka

Udupi, Karnataka, Sep 13 (UNI) Exchange of fire was reported between the Anti-Naxal Force and naxalites near Hallihole in Kundapur taluk in Udupi district of Karnataka this afternoon.
