Respect human rights of others: Governor

Bhopal, Sep 13 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Governor Balram Jakhar today stressed the need for respecting the human right of other people in order to understand its importance.

''Apart from our own rights, we must understand the importance of human rights of other people,'' Dr Jakhar said, while addressing a programme organised here on the 11th Foundation Day of the Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission (MPHRC).

Describing growing population as an issue related to human rights, Dr Jakhar said it would be difficult to feed people if population grew at the current pace.

Former National Human Rights Commission Chairman J S Verma said favourable results could not be achieved in terms of human rights without public participation.

Drawing parallels between death in custody and hunger deaths, he said if one was regarded as a human rights issue the other could not be denied.

He emphasised on the need for ensuring that human rights did not remain confined to political and civil matters.

''The MPHRC is preparing an action plan for victims focussing on security and rehabilitation of victims and witnesses,'' MPHRC Chairman D M Dharmadhikari said.

He suggested creating an advisory committee for human rights.
