NC demands relief package for flood-affected Jammu region

Jammu Sep 13 (UNI) The National Conference today demanded a relief package for the Jammu region ravaged by heavy rains and flood recently.

Jammu NCP president Ajay Sadhotra while talking to UNI said, thousands of houses have collapsed or partially damaged, standing crops destroyed and thousands of acres of cultivated land washed away due to heavy rains coupled with flash floods in the region but the state government had been a ''mere spectator''.

Coming down heavily on Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, the NC leader said the people were expecting a relief package after the Chief Minister met district development commissioners and additional district development commissioners here yesterday but Mr Azad has ''disappointed'' them.

Mr Sadhotra said the Chief Minister did not even visit the affected areas and was instead busy in making ''false promises'' on development and corruption issues.

Mr Sadhotra said that he had met the Chief Minister on Tuesday and apprised him of the loss of life and property in the region due to the havoc wreaked by Tawi and Nikki Tawi rivers in the region.

He had also urged Mr Azad to announce Rs 25000 as relief for those whose houses were fully damaged and Rs 12000 to those partially damaged.
