Modi invites State Governments to build port

Indore, Sept 13: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has invited governments of landlocked states, including Madhya Pradesh, to construct ports on the 1,600-km Gujarat coast.

Addressing the Devi Ahilya Award function here last evening, he said, ''the development of Gujarat is for the nation and my state has been working with the vision of national development.'' Referring to tough competition with China, the visiting leader pointed out that of the 40 lakh cotton bales exported to China last year, 33 lakh were from Gujarat.

''The country has been struggling to achieve 8 per cent growth rate but Gujrat has achieved 15 per cent last year. In the past three years, value of agricultural production was enhanced from Rs 9,000 crore to Rs 28,000 crore.''

Lalu claims support of 43 MLAs

New Delhi, Sep 13 (UNI) Claiming support of 43 MLAs in the 82-member Jharkhand Assembly, RJD Supremo Lalu Prasad today said the Arjun Munda Government should be dismissed and the UPA be asked to form a government in the state. Mr Prasad paraded 37 of the 43 MLAS whose support he was claiming before the media at his official residence here. He said the remaining six members would be reaching Ranchi today. Chronicler of Tendulkar's first world record dies in Mumbai

New Delhi, Sep 13 (UNI) Dr Vasant Naik, the statistician who broke the news about two Mumbai youngsters, Sachin Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli, creating a world record partnership in 1987-88 died at the age of 82 in England recently. Theo Braganza, secretary of the Association of Cricket Statisticians and Scorers of India said in a statement that Mr Naik, founder member and first secretary of the ACSSI, passed away on September 8 at his home.....

US NATO envoy calls for more troops in Afghan

London, Sept 13: NATO allies must fulfil their commitment to the future stability of Afghanistan by upping their fighting capability and putting more troops on the ground, Washington's ambassador to the alliance said today.Victoria Nuland praised the U S, Britain, Canada and the Netherlands for their combat efforts in Afghanistan, but urged other members of the 26-nation alliance to reinforce political and logistical support with military commitments.''What we are looking to do is to put more forces.....
