Sambalpur, Sep 13 (UNI) An artistic crown of Goddess Ghanteswari of Chipilima, one of the old temples on the bank of river Mahanadi, was stolen on the wee hours of Monday night.

Police today said the crown, made of silver weighing about 700 grams, was stolen by the miscreants taking advantage of lone security personnel in charge of guarding the temple premises.

Ghanteswari is the presiding deity of the region and a place of tourist interest with scenic beauty amidst lush green forests located 30 km from here.

Sambalpur Superintendent of Police S.Devdatt Singh said no one has been arrested in connection with the crime. He, however, said police would soon able to nab the culprits.

In the past also the miscreants had made several attempts to steal the brass made bells from the temple but in vain. The Goddess is named as 'Ghanteswari' since thousands of metallic bells were found hanging in the temple premises.
