Maoists protest arms import

Kathmandu, Sep 13 (UNI) The Maoists have called a nation-wide strike today to protest the import of 'weapons' by the government, saying a huge cache of arms and ammunitions entered Nepal last night.

''Four Mine Protected Vehicles, 20 mini-trucks, two trucks and five jeeps carrying arms and ammunitions entered the country via Birgunj and arrived at the Nepal Army barracks at Gajuri in Dhading last night,'' The Himalayan Times quoted Maoists' central member Anant as saying.

The trucks were carrying regular non-combat supplies, Brigadier Nepal Bhushan Chand was quoted as saying by the paper.

The Maoists also claimed that they halted around 17 vehicles with army supplies in Bankatta and Rupandehi.

Meanwhile, Bhairhawa, Butwal, Parasi, Narayanghat and Biratnagar were shut down due to the Chakka Jam called by the Maoists. It also led to the closure of Mahendra Highway.

Hindustan Oil gets operatorship of oil block

New Delhi, Sept 13: Hindustan Oil Exploration Company (HOEC) today said the government has approved the transfer of operatorship of an oil block from Premier Oil North East India BV to the company.''The Directorate General of Hydrocarbons, Government of India, has approved the assignment of Participating Interest (PI) from Premier Oil North East India BV to the company thereby enhancing its PI from 25 per cent to 40.323 per cent,'' a company statement said.HOEC was the first.....

Water train to dewater flood-hit Kawas

Barmer, Sept 13: The state government has sought the help of a water train to dewater the marooned Kawas village from stagnant flood water. According to S B Gandhi, chief PRO of North-Western Railways (NRW), the first water train comprising 72 tankers with a capacity of 22,000 litres each will be able to decant 15 lakh litre of water in one trip.
