Krishna Janmashtami to be celebrated tomorrow

Udupi, Sep 13 (UNI) Sri Krishna Janmashtami and Sri Krishna Leelotsav will be celebrated in this temple town tomorrow and the following day, respectively.

The week-long Janmashtami festival was already under way at the famous Sri Krishna temple here, with daily special discourses and cultural events.

The entire temple had been decorated with flowers and the downtown 'Ratha Beedi' (car street) decked up. Special poles have been erected to celebrate Sri Krishna Leelotsav, locally popular as 'Vittala Pindi', during which a special car festival would be held.

Hundreds of people from the pastoral community of nearby villages have gathered in Udupi to offer 'Arghya' (pouring of milk and water from conch) to the specially made clay idol of Lord Krishna at midnight tonight to mark the birth of the Lord.

Six gets lifer in double murder case

Anand, Sep 13 (UNI) A Nadiad fast track court today sentenced six people to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 in a double murder commited in November, 2002, in the aftermath of Godhra riots. New Delhi, Sep 13 (UNI) Madras High Court Judge Muthusamy Karpagavinayagam has been appointed Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court by President APJ Abdul Kalam, it was announced today. Two arrested with 1,200 kg of poppy husk

New Delhi, Sep 13 (UNI) In yet another major haul of contraband in the capital, police have seized 1,200 kg of poppy husk, worth more than rupees ten million, from G T Karnal Road in North-West Delhi and arrested two people. The contraband packed in gunny bags was seized from the possession of Mukhtiar Singh and Mukesh yesterday, the police said. The accused were part of a trafficking racket supplying large quantity of lanced poppy.....
