IED at Malegaon shopping centre; experts called

Malegaon, Sept 13: An unclaimed box found in Mohammadiya shopping centre here has indeed turned out to be an improvised explosive device (IED) and police have called experts after cordoning off the area.

The IED has been removed to an open ground and bomb disposal experts called to ascertain the type of explosive, local police officials said.

After the unclaimed box was sighted in the market, it spread a scare in this predominantly Muslim town where Friday's bomb blasts killed 31 people and wounded nearly 300.

Police along with religious leaders have been appleaing to the people to remain calm.

Earlier on Monday, a similar unclaimed packet found at Nashik had also turned out to be an IED. But a timely alert sounded by an eight-year-old boy averted a major tragedy in a thickly-populated area of Nashik.

The packet was Found abandoned in front of a hospital at Mirajkar ground on Nagji-Wadala road in Nashik, the IED with a timer and concealed in a plastic bag was, however, diffused by police bomb disposal squad.
