Haryana to construct 64 km long canal in NCR

Chandigarh, Sep 13 (UNI) Haryana Government today decided to construct a 64-km-long canal with initial capacity of 500 cusecs of water at a cost of Rs 213 crore to meet the future requirement of water in the National Capital Region (NCR) falling in the state.

A decision to this effect was taken in a meeting presided over by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

The canal has been planned in view of the projected requirement of drinking water and that of industrial sector upto the year 2021 in the NCR falling in Haryana.

The new canal would take off from Delhi branch at village Kakroi in district Sonepat and run upto village Budhera in Gurgaon district.

It would be completed with in three years. Although the initial capacity of the canal would be 500 cusecs, it would be enhanced to 800 cusecs as per the future requirements. The meeting was also informed that as the future demand would take time to develop and the water of Yamuna being spare from July to October, the capacity of the new canal would be utilised to recharge the ground water.

It was also informed that the on going work to increase the capacity of the existing canal in Gurgaon from 135 cusecs to 200 cusecs would be completed by March next year.

Ranbaxy invalidates Pfizer 281 patent in the Netherlands

Gurgaon, Sep 13 (UNI) Ranbaxy Laboratories Limited (Ranbaxy) today announced that the District Court of the Hague has handed down a decision in Ranbaxy's case against (Pfizer) Warner-Lambert over the cholesterol-lowering drug, atorvastatin, which is marketed by Pfizer as Lipitor(r). Lipitor(r) is a registered trademark of Pfizer. The three-judge panel held that (Pfizer) Warner-Lambert's European Patent 409 281 was invalid in the Netherlands. However, Ranbaxy's atorvastatin product was ruled to infringe the broadest.....

Soldier killed, woman wounded in Kashmir

Srinagar, Sep 13 (UNI) A soldier was killed while the wife of an ex-serviceman was wounded in the Kashmir valley overnight, an official spokesman said today. Militants attacked a security force patrol party at Brain Akhal in Qazigund area of south Kashmir's Anantnag district early this morning.
