Govt launches Micro-pension scheme for Bihar milk producers

Patna, Sep 13 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today launched a Micro-pension scheme for financial empowerment of the milk producers of the state.

After launching this scheme, Mr Kumar said it would make the milk producers financially independent after they reach the retirement age.

''Under the scheme, the milk producers would enable them to receive pension. The milk producers would contribute Rs 100 every month towards UTI Pension Fund upto the age of 55.'' He said 40 thousand milk producers have joined the scheme and hoped others would also get the advantages of the scheme.

The Chief Minister handed over a Rs 64,50,350 cheque to Chairman and Managing Director of the UTI U.K.Sinha on behalf of the Bihar State Co-Operative Milk Producers Federation Limited (COMPFED).

Mr Kumar said that the dairy sector has immense potential and the government would provide all possible assistance for the development of the sector.

The government would make provisions in the budget in this regard, he said. Several related projects like milk collection, marketting and processing were on the offing.

''The farmers would opt for dairy business as financial assistance is available during natural calamities like drought and flood.
