Government needs to learn from Apatanis

Itanagar, Sept 13 (UNI) Government needs to learn much from its people, said additional commissioner, Union Ministry of Agriculture, Shamsher Singh.

While visiting a fish cum paddy cultivation field at Ziro in Lower Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh recently, Mr Singh was referring to the Apatani people for their scientific method of cultivating paddy along with fishes in the same field at the same time. He appreciated the systematic cultivation taken up by the people with two crops simultaneously and the construction of thick bunds around the paddy field, official sources said here today.

The additional commissioner advised the district culture officer to have constant analysis of the soil by testing it at least twice every year for five to ten years to enable him to see if there is any loss or gain of micro-nutrients or minor elements in the soil of the area, being used for fish-cum-paddy cultivation, sources added.
