Geelani re-elected chairman of Hurriyat Conference

Srinagar, Sep 13: The breakaway Hurriyat Conference today re-elected Syed Ali Shah Geelani as its chairman for next three years.

Addressing a press conference here this afternoon, Mr Geelani said he had requested the constituents of the Hurriyat Conference that he was in favour of a new chairman since he was not keeping well.

However, his request was turned down and he was re-elected chairman for three years unopposed.

Mr Geelani alleged that Human Rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in Kashmir valley, have increased.

The youth are being killed in fake encounter and thousands are languishing in jails without any trial for years, he said.

The HC chairman said people of Jammu and Kashmir are in favour of peaceful solution of the Kashmir issue by implementing the United Nations resolution.
