FCI received 11 vessels with 5.62 lakh MT of wheat till Sep 12

New Delhi, Sep 13 (UNI) Four vessels carrying a total quantity of 1,55,467 MT of wheat, are currently waiting for discharge at Chennai, Cochin and Vizag ports, out of which 78,380 MT of wheat has been discharged till yesterday.

Six vessels with 3,25,701 MT of wheat have arrived, and are under fumigation/quality-check/berthing. Of the nine vessels that have sailed to Indian ports with 4,84,483 MT of wheat, eight vessels are scheduled to arrive by September end, according to an official release here today.

The remaining one vessel is expected to arrive at Indian ports by October 9, 2006.

Against tender of import of wheat for 38.3 lakh MT, two vessels with a total quantity of 92,000 MT of wheat were received in April/May, 2006.

Eleven vessels with total quantity of 5,62,082 MT of wheat have been received by FCI till yesterday, the release added.

Chronicler of Tendulkar's first world record dies in Mumbai

New Delhi, Sep 13 (UNI) Dr Vasant Naik, the statistician who broke the news about two Mumbai youngsters, Sachin Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli, creating a world record partnership in 1987-88 died at the age of 82 in England recently. Theo Braganza, secretary of the Association of Cricket Statisticians and Scorers of India said in a statement that Mr Naik, founder member and first secretary of the ACSSI, passed away on September 8 at his home.....

US NATO envoy calls for more troops in Afghan

'US tries to contact N Korea on nuclear issue'

Seoul, Sept 13: The chief US nuclear envoy sought to contact Pyongyang to help resume stalled six-country talks on ending North Korea's nuclear weapons programme but was rebuffed, a South Korean official said today.The offer by Assistant Secretary of State Christopher Hill was turned down by the North last week while Hill was visiting China, the official said without elaborating.''I understand Assistant Secretary Hill made the gesture on his own initiative to try to resume the six-party.....
