Farmer commits suicide in Idukki

Idukki, Sep 13 (UNI) A 62 year-old debt stricken farmer Maprathekken Kanjikuzhi, allegedly committed suicide in the Kanjikuzhi police station limits in Idukki district of Kerala this morning.

Police said Kanjikuzhi poured kerosene on his body and immolated himself. He is survived by his wife Devaki and four children.

Four years ago, he had reportedly taken a loan of Rs 30,000 from the Thodupuzha Kaarshika Bhoovikasana Bank. The loan swelled to Rs 75,000, police said.

Mumbai court rejects Gujarat police plea for Salem's custody

Mumbai, Sep 13 (UNI) A TADA court here today rejected plea of the Gujarat police, seeking custody of extradited gangster and the 1993 Bombay serial bomb blasts accused Abu Salem in a 1993 criminal case filed against him by the Porbandhar police. Anand, Sep 13 (UNI) A Nadiad fast track court today sentenced six people to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 in a double murder commited in November, 2002, in the aftermath of Godhra riots. Two arrested with 1,200 kg of poppy husk

New Delhi, Sep 13 (UNI) In yet another major haul of contraband in the capital, police have seized 1,200 kg of poppy husk, worth more than rupees ten million, from G T Karnal Road in North-West Delhi and arrested two people. The contraband packed in gunny bags was seized from the possession of Mukhtiar Singh and Mukesh yesterday, the police said.
