Dr Ravi Mallu calls on Congress President Mrs Sonia Gandhi

New Delhi, Sep 13 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Special Representative Ravi Mallu called on Congress President Sonia Gandhi at her residence to apprise her about the progress of different developmental programmes being implemented by the State Government.

During the discussions ranging from political developments in the state, Dr Mallu told the Congress President that prestigious Jala Yagnam programme has started yielding results with the release of water from three irrigations projects -- Peddagedda, Surampalem and Pedderu in which the Government had made arrangements to release water to 7.5 lakh acres this year, an official release said.

HC directs installation of techno-security within two weeks

Mumbai, Sep 13 (UNI) The Bombay High Court today directed the state government to install within two weeks, the appropriate number of closed-circuit televisions and procure the required x-ray baggage scanners within its premises for tightening the security of the premises. A division bench comprising Justices R M Lodha and S A Bobde today also directed the Registrar to take stock of the security measures implemented at the Nagpur, Goa and Aurangabad High Courts.....

Two undertrials killed in police firing, 5 others escape

Rajkot, Sep 13 (UNI) Police today opened fire on fourteen undertrials who were trying to escape from custody while they were being brought back to the jail after a court hearing in Rajula. While two undertrials were killed and one was injured, another five managed to escape. Six of them were however recaptured, said district superintendent of police R V Jotania over phone. He said the undertrials were brought back to the Amreli jail after.....

Parliament has exclusive power over members' conduct: Achary

New Delhi, Sep 13 (UNI) Lok Sabha Secretary-General PDT Achary told the Supreme Court today that the Indian Parliament has the exclusive jurisdiction, privilege and power to regulate and discipline the conduct of its members if it is found offensive.
