Dilapidated houses around Kashi Vishwanath complex to be demolished

Varanasi, Sep 13 (UNI) The high-level Standing Committee on Security directed the Varanasi Nagar Nigam (VNN) officials to ensure the demolition of dilapidated houses near Kashi Vishwanath-Gyanwapi complex here today.

Additional Director General (Security) of Police R K Tiwari, who led the other members of the Committee during security review of the complex, directed the officials to first identify and then demolish the houses located in the vicinity of the highly sensitive complex, sources said.

''Such houses could result in large scale casuality and hence, should be demolished,'' Mr Tiwari said.

He also directed the VNN to start the work on this count and send report on demolition drive to the UP government.

The owners of the identified houses should be paid due compensation, he added.

US Govt to open Treasury Attache's office in Delhi

Security failure led to blasts: Basu
