CPI(ML) supports striking employees at Jipmer

Pondicherry, Sep 13 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) today expressed full support to the striking Jipmer employees.

In a statement here, CPI(ML) state committee member P Sankaran said the party strongly opposed the decision of the union cabinet to grant autonomous status to Jipmer and demanded it be withdrawn.

Stating this was against the peoples wish, Mr Sankaran condemned the political parties here, which were directly or indirectly supporting the autonomous status for Jipmer.

Pointing out levying of fees for various aspects, including registration and consultation in autonomous institutions like AIIMS, New Delhi and P G Institute, Chandigarh, Mr Sankaran said the assurance of the Health Ministry that it would not affect the people as well as the employees in any way could not be accepted.

He also demanded status quo be maintained in on the Jipmer issue and added the Centre should sanction more funds to enhance the facilities at the institute.
