Committee formed to maintain weigh bridge at Ottinene

Udupi, Sep 13 (UNI) The weigh bridge, reinstalled by the Mine Export Owners Forum at Ottinene on the border of the district after a prolonged public protest, will be maintained by a Committee chaired by the Assistant Commissioner and having Mysore Minerals Limited (MML) Manager as Member-Secretary.

Announcing this to newspersons here, Udupi Deputy Commissioner Ponnuraju said adequate police personnel would be deployed at Ottinene to ensure that every manganese ore-laden lorry was weighed at the weigh bridge before entering the district enroute to the New Mangalore Port Trust. Excess load of ore would be unloaded at the nearby vacant site and later auctioned, he added.

He said the Committee would also be entrusted with the task of collecting a fee of Rs 30 per lorry from tomorrow, which would be handed over to MML for exclusive maintenance. MML would, at a later stage, take up the responsibility of collecting the fees, offloading the excess load ore and payment to the Government, besides maintenance.

Youth proved guilty for murder but escapes with fine

New Delhi, Sep 13 (UNI) A youth who stabbed his cousin to death three years ago was today fined Rs one lakh by a city court which ruled that Rs 50000 of the fine amount would go to the victim's family. Additional sessions judge Rajiv Mehra today imposed a fine of Rs one lakh on 23-year-old Gunjan Paliwal who had, on February 14, 2003, stabbed his cousin sister Anju Sharma at her home in Rajender.....

Audio cassette is doctored, alleges Amarinder's Counsel

Chandigarh, Sep 13 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh's counsel today described as ''doctored and ante-dated'' the audio-cassette of the reported conversation with the CM's media advisor cited in support of the charge of attempt to ''buy over'' the petitioner into withdrawing a election petition. The petition is being re-heard in the Punjab and Haryana High Court by Justice Satish Kumar Mittal after it was sent back to the High Court.....
