Chronicler of Tendulkar's first world record dies in Mumbai

New Delhi, Sep 13 (UNI) Dr Vasant Naik, the statistician who broke the news about two Mumbai youngsters, Sachin Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli, creating a world record partnership in 1987-88 died at the age of 82 in England recently.

Theo Braganza, secretary of the Association of Cricket Statisticians and Scorers of India said in a statement that Mr Naik, founder member and first secretary of the ACSSI, passed away on September 8 at his home in England.

Dr Naik broke the news of Tendulkar and Kambli creating a partnership of 664 in Harris Shield in 1987-88 which became first of the many world records of Tendulkar.

It was because of Dr Naik's effort that the records found place in Wisden Cricketers Almanack and Guinness Book of World Records.

Dr Naik also authored several books on cricket in Marathi and English and he assisted Vijay Hazare in all his books.

One of Dr Naik's works was ''History of World Cricket''.

A doctor by profession, his first love was cricket, specially its history and statistics.

He migrated to England in 1996 and Dr Naik left behind his wife and two sons, Mr Braganza said.
