AP CM to visit Tirumala on Sep 25

Tirupati, Sep 13 (UNI) Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy will come here on September 25 to offer sacred vestments on behalf of the state government to Lord Venkateswara on the eve of 'dwajarohanam' (flag -hoisting), marking the start of the nine-day annual Brahmotsavam.

Offering silk robes to the lord on 'dwajarohanam' day instead of the customary 'garuda seva' (fifth day of the festival) was begun last year for security reasons. Over a lakh pilgrims come to Tirumala for the 'garuda seva' TTD Chairman B Karunakar Reddy reviewed the arrangements being made for Dr Reddy's visit with TTD Executive Officer A P V N Sarma and JEO G Balaramaiah, an official said here today.

Pakistan's proposed rape law reform inadequate: ACHR

New Delhi, Sep 13 (UNI) Slamming the Pakistan Government for giving in to religious conservatives opposed to the amendment of Islamic laws dealing with rape and adultery, the Asian Centre for Human Rights (ACHR) today said the revised draft of the Protection of Women (Criminal Laws Amendment) Bill falls short of Islamabad's obligations under international human rights law. The laws, known as the Hudood Ordinances, make a rape victim liable to prosecution for adultery.....
