ANF-naxal encounter reported in K'taka

Udupi, Karnataka, Sep 13 (UNI) Exchange of fire was reported between the Anti-Naxal Force and naxalites near Hallihole in Kundapur taluk in Udupi district of Karnataka this afternoon.

Superintendent of Police Subramanyeshwara Rao, who rushed to the spot, told UNI that there was no report of any casualty so far.

According to police sources, the ANF squad, which was involved in combing operations in Hallihole forest area, sighted some ultras at about 1330 hrs. Immediately, the insurgents opened fire at the ANF, which was retaliated by the latter. However, the extremists escaped into the thick forest.

Braving heavy rains, the ANF, along with the local police, intensified combing operations in the forest areas of Shankaranarayana, Devarabalu, Madamakki and other areas in the Western Ghats in Kundapur taluk following the incident.
