AITC, INC hindering growth of WB: Manab

Kolkata, Sep 13 (UNI) West Bengal Tourism Minister Manab Mukherjee today came down heavily on the Trinamool Congress and Congress for "hindering" growth in the state.

Addressing a rally organised by Democratic Youth Federation of India, Mr Mukherjee said, ''The AITC and the INC alliance for fighting the September 16 bypolls will not have lasting impact in the state.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi and AITC chairperson Mamata Banerjee have raised their voice for the farmers and opposed land distribution to industrial houses in the state. But Mr Dasmunshi did not oppose such moves in Karnataka, Hyderabad and Punjab,'' he added.

Speaking about the Malegaon incident, Mr Mukherjee said, ''We have appealed to UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi to arrest the culprits responsible for the Malegaon bomb blast where 53 people killed and many injured.'' DYFI state secretary Asitava Ganguly said, ''The federation has welcomed the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the state if they accept three conditions including industrial infrastructure, employment generation and development of the state.'' State Housing Minister Gautam Dev also spoke at the rally.

K'taka Govt asked to hold polls to Bellary Corpn by year-end

Bangalore, Sep 13 (UNI) The Karnataka High Court today dismissed a writ petition, challenging the appointment of an Administrator to the Bellary City Corporation, and directed the Government to hold elections to the newly upgraded Corporation before the year-end. Mr Justice B S Patil dismissed the petition filed by former Mayor Gali Somasekhara Reddy and 19 other Councillors of Bellary, challenging the appointment of the Bellary Deputy Commissioner as Administrator. The petitioners contended.....

Three policemen suspended over the escape of sharpshooter

Surat, Sep 13 (UNI) Three policemen, posted at the Silvassa sub-jail in Dadra and Nagar Haveli, were suspended yesterday in connection with the escape of a convict, Vijayakumar Chaudhuri while a judicial inquiry was ordered into the incident, sources said. Vijayakumar Chaudhuri, an accused in as many as 18 cases, including the murder of trade unionist Datta Samant, had escaped from Silvassa sub-jail on Saturday morning. Dadra and Nagar Haveli police have yet.....

6 arrested, charas seized in Bihar

Bettiah, Sep 13 (UNI) Six women were arrested and charas worth Rs 30 lakhs were seized from Chanpatia railway station area in West Champaran district today. Deputy Inspector General of Police (Champaran Range) S K Singhal said acting on a tip off, a police team conducted the raid and arrested the smugglers with 30 Kgs of contraband Charas.
