AISF protests fees hike

Guwahati, Sept 13 (UNI) The Asom unit of the All India Students' Federation (AISF) today held a demonstration against the rise in educational fees in the state in recent times.

The AISF demanded that the government announce roll-back in school and college fees and 70 per cent concession in transportation charges for students.

It also wanted regular payment of scholarship money to needy students and re-introduction of the scheme of monthly scholarship for students attaining above 75 per cent marks in matriculation examinations, discontinued since the early 1990s.

The Left affiliated students' body also demanded that commercialisation and privatization of educational institutes should be stopped immediately.

It also asked the government for granting educational loans to students without any pre-condition.

The demonstrators marched to the Deputy Commissioner's office and submitted a memorandum, after staging a sit-in protest.
