Abducted woman daughter rescued

Morena (MP), Sep 13: Nine months after she was sold for Rs 30,000, a Bhopal-based woman and her daughter were found in a hospital in this district, police said.

Jyoti (25), who was travelling along with her six-month-old daughter and brother, was drugged by Gopal and Jagannath Kushwah, who held the woman captive at Jaura for two days before selling her to Pasauta village-resident Ram Singh.

The accused locked the woman inside a room for nine months and kept a close watch on her.

Some days back, Jyoti's daughter fell ill and the accused admitted her to district hospital. Jyoti narrated her tale of woe to neighbouring patient's family members, who informed police.

Police were on the lookout of the accused.

Hamirpur, Sep 13 (UNI) A local court in Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh today sentenced a person to three years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,000 under Sections 376 and 511 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). In its order, the court sentenced the person to three years RI and a fine of Rs 5,000 for forcing the girl to have sex with him in an unnatural manner and another punishment of six.....

Rise in travellers with Chikungunya virus reported

LONDON, Sep 13 (Reuters) Cases of the mosquito-borne Chikungunya virus in people returning to Britain from islands in the Indian Ocean have risen dramatically, public health experts said today. More than 115 travellers have shown symptoms of the illness, which causes a high fever, headache, nausea, vomiting and muscle and joint pain, so far this year, compared to an average of about six cases annually.
