16 hurt in jail violence

Ujjain, MP, Sep 13 (UNI) Sixteen inmates have been injured in violence at a sub-jail at this district's Khachrod area.

One of the victims of yesterday's clash was admitted last night to the government hospital here and was stated to be out of danger.

Intermittent disputes were going on for several days between the people accused of murdering Nagda Industrial Area's Congress leader Dileep Sharma with a rival group.

''Inmate Arun Nair was hospitalised. Prison authorities took immediate action and prevented the situation from worsening.

Criminal cases were registered against five inmates from each group,'' Central Jail, Bhairavgarh, Superintendent Mansharam Patel said.

Farmers launch 'halla bol' agitation

Mahoba, Sep 13 (UNI) Tension mounted here today after farmers' launched 'halla bol' agitation' demanding the government to declare the district as drought-hit area. On the call of the Bharatiya Kisan Union, thousands of farmers of the district squatted on the Kanpur-Sagar highway following which there was a massive traffic snarl for some hours. Indian nuke programme on irrespective of US deal

Bangalore, Sept 13: The Indian nuclear programme will be pursued undeterred irrespective of the Indo-US nuclear deal coming through, Atomic Energy Commission Chairman Anil Kakodkar said today.Speaking to reporters on the sidelines after inaugurating the Emergency Response Centre at the Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration and Research here, he said the two countries had held wide ranging discussions on the modalities of the nuclear fuel deal and also some specific discussions with International Atomic Energy Authority (IAEA) with regard.....
