Security measures to be scaled up at Anna Varsity

Chennai, Sep 12 (UNI) Metal detectors and modern security gadgets would be installed at vantage points at Anna University here to check students, professors and visitors, University Vice-Chancellor D Viswanathan said.

He said there would be only one entry and exit points and armed guards would be positioned at various locations in the University's Guindy campus.

Meanwhile, the city police today warned that persons spreading misleading information about the fire in his residence would be arrested.

Mr Viswanathan had yesterday said he suspected that the incident might have been the handiwork of his ''enemies inside the university''.

''I have lodged a complaint with the police and I have told them that I had already received a murder threat due to which I stopped my morning walk. Though I have not named a suspect, I can disclose it during investigation,'' he said.

In the early hours of yesterday, a guard at the vice-chancellor's residence had heard an explosion and noticed fire emanating from the kitchen. University authorities had informed the police and fire service, who rushed to the spot and put out the fire.
