One arrested for booking rocket launchers

Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh, Sep 8 (UNI) Police who seized 600 rocket launchers in a major haul in Mahabubnagar district has arrested one Srinivasa Reddy, who is alleged to have booked the weapons.

Police had started the investigation simultaneously in several places and found quickly that all the rocket launchers were booked by one Srinivasa Reddy. They traced the person to Proddutur in this district and arrested him within few hours of the seizure.

Police said the rocket launchers were booked at Nellore in 35 gunny bags with Kranti Transports. The bags which reached Kadapa from Nellore were transhipped to Proddutur, Giddaluru and Vijayawada declaring the cargo to be parts of agriculture pump sets, police said.

Police shifted Srinivasa Reddy to Kadapa from Proddutur for interrogation, police sources said.

Meanwhile, police had checked the godowns of several transport offices throughout the state. Police authorities had directed the Kranti Transport to suspend their operations till they give clearance.
