Kumaraswamy warns Centre for changing stand on border issue

Subramanya, Dakshina Kannada, Sep 2 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy today warned the UPA government that it would be directly held responsible for any future developments in the Northern Karnataka region, particularly Belgaum, Nippani and Karwar, due to the volteface by it on the Karnataka- Maharashtra border issue.

Mr Kumaraswamy, who offered special prayers at the Kukke Subramanya temple here, told mediapersons that the Centre which earlier supported the Karnataka Government's stand had ''suddenly and surprisingly'' changed its stand yesterday. This would lead to flaring peoples emotions in Northern Karnataka, he cautioned.

''If these emotional feelings leads to any law and order problem, the Centre would be directly responsible for the consecuence''.

He said, during his visit to some areas in Northern Karnataka region, he had found that the people were leading a cordial and harmonous life. He also reiterated that the state government was firm in its stand that Mahajan commission report on the border issue was ''Final and there was absolutely no diviation from its stand''.

Ridiculing the charges of government's failure by the Congress leaders, he said it had become a practice of the Congress habit to make baseless charges when they were out of power. The same Congress leaders who were in power for over four decades could not do anything for the people, he said.

The Chief Minister who made an overnight halt in Dharmasthala, also visited the famous Sri Manjunatheshwara temple and offered his special prayers this the morning.
