Kumaraswamy asks DCs to effectively implement FFW scheme

Bellary, Karnataka, Aug 30 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy today said he had instructed all Deputy Commissioners to effectively implement the Centrally-sponsored food-for-work scheme.

''I came to know that the villagers are migrating to other places in search of work...this should be stopped. The Government's aim is to provide two square meals a day to the rural agricultural labourers. The State is facing serious drought with the failure of monsoons,'' he said after laying the foundation stone for the second unit of Bellary Thermal Power Station in Kuditini, 40 km from here.

The State Government had been asked by the Centre to supply over two lakh tonnes of foodgrains under the scheme, he added.

India to host South Asia U-17 Women's Football Championship

New Delhi, Aug 30 (UNI) India will host South Asian Football Federation's (SAFF) Under-17 Women's Championship in February next year, an Asian Football Cofederation (AFC) statement said today. New Delhi, Aug 30 (UNI) Without ammunition for the Doha Asian Games trials, Arjuna award winning shooter Gagan Narang today said he is banking on the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) to provide him the cartridges for the trials starting next month after the government failed to do so. Talking to UNI, the World Cup gold medallist, who has secured Olympic quota berth in three rifle events, said the shooters were running short of cartridges.....
