Murthy was requested to firm up roadmap for K'taka's Knowledge sec

Bangalore, Aug 25 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy tonight announced that Infosys Chief Mentor N R Narayana Murthy has been asked to firm up road map for the development of State Knowledge Sector.

Stating that his government will take all initiatives to maintain its pre-eminent position as the IT leader in the country, Mr Kumaraswamy said Mr Murthy, who just turned 60 and retired as Chairman of the Infosys Technologies, has been requested to firm up a road map for Karnataka's knowledge sector.'' Mr Kumaraswamy said this after launching the Ninth Edition of the four-day 'Bangalore IT.IN 2006' Asia's premier IT event beginning here from October 28.

He said in the 23 billion dollars IT exports during 2005-06, Karnataka's contribution was over Eight billion dollars, accounting about 37 per cent.

He said while the state contributed software products worth over Rs 37,000 crore. The Hardware accounted for Rs 2481 crore.

Mr Kumaraswamy also announced that the State government has decided to set up five sector-specific cities. The integrated township consisting of commercial, residential, shopping, entertainment, schooling sub-sectors, would obviating the need for travel to and from Bangalore city. The government has also decided to setup a knowledge city between Bangalore and Mysore covering over 5000 acres of land and the BMRDA would soon come out with the details, he added.

13 killed in a road accident in Haryana

Bhiwani, Aug 25 (UNI) As many as 13 people were killed and eleven injured in a road accident near Charkhi Dadri in Bhiwani district of Haryana today. The accident occurred when a tempo collided with an oncoming truck near Charkhi Dadri this evening. Twelve of the deceased belonged to Lohar wala village, Police said. Journalist killed in car accident

Lucknow, Aug 25 (UNI) Journalist B C Tiwari today died in a car accident in Bara Banki district here. Sources said Tiwari (57), who worked as a part-time journalist for UNI in Rae Bareli, was seriously injured in a car accident near Rudauli village of the neighbouring Bara Banki district. He was rushed to a hopspital here, where doctors declared him brought dead. His son, Amit, a local Congress leader in Rae Bareli was also critically.....

Tsunami victims get house from Gov

Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu, Aug 25: Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala handed over the keys of the houses built for the tsunami victims at Pattipulamkuppam here today. As many as 245 houses were reconstructed jointly by BAPS Swaminarayana Sanstha, India and BAPS Care International, USA.The killer waves had claimed 130 lives in this district alone. Mr Barnala commended the works of the NGOs which were in the front line to serve the tsunami-affected people of coastal.....
