Floods: Centre neglecting K'taka's plea for funds: Kumaraswamy

Mandya, Aug 20 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy today accused the Union Government of neglecting the state government's appeal for financial assistance to carry out relief work in flood-ravaged areas in several parts of the state.

Speaking to newspersons here, he said state government would submit a memorandum to President A P J Abdul Kalam during his visit to Bagalkot district tomorrow and apprise him about the problems being faced by the state ''due to the discrimination shown by the Centre in releasing funds.'' On suspended BJP legislator G Janardhana Reddy's claim that he had concrete evidence to prove the charge that he and Forests Minister C Chennigappa had received a bribe of Rs 150 crore from the mining lobby in Bellary district, Mr Kumaraswamy said ''please wait and see. Let any body disclose evidences. I am ready to face the situation. I will not be shaken by such disclosures.'' He said the Opposition parties, particularly the Congress, would fail in its attempts to destabilise the JD (S)-BJP coalition government and asserted that it would complete its full term.

''There is no threat to the government...it is only a political gimmick of the Opposition.'' Referring to former Prime Minister and JD (S) President H D Deve Gowda's statewide tour, he said he had taken it up to further strengthen the party at the grassroots level.

He announced that Chairmen to various Boards and Corporations would be appointed soon. The Maharashtra model of sharing power equally would be adopted in this regard.

Mr Kumaraswamy was here to inaugurate a private hospital.
