RJD's struggle for rights of backward classes to continue: Lalu

Patna, Aug 19:   Railway Minister Lalu Prasad today vowed that struggle for rights of backward classes would continue and any attempt to scuttle them would not be tolerated.

Addressing a function here to mark the birth anniversary of Guru Sahay Lal, a freedom fighter and champion of causes of the backward classes, Mr Prasad described him as a leader and an educationist who devoted his life for the causes of oppressed section of the society.

He called upon the youth to inculcate the high moral values as preached by, who also had served as Revenue Minister in interim government in Bihar in the pre-independence era.

Talking about the agitation launched by the people in support of installation of a statue at Amber Chowk in Nalanda district, Mr Prasad offered his support and said he had also talked to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in this connection. The recent announcement by the Chief Minister to install the statue of an advocate Chandeshwari Singh at Amber Chowk had triggered agitation and local people were demanding to install the statue of Mr Lal.

The RJD president affirmed that installation of the statue of Lal would inspire the new generation to work to uplift the downtrodden sections of the society.

Congress demands clarification on land dealing

Bangalore, Aug 19 (UNI) The Congress in Karnataka has accused former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (S) National President H D Deve Gowda's family of grabbing farmers' land in the state.
