UP Governor, CM greet people on Independence Day

Lucknow, Aug 14 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Governor T V Rajeswar and Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav have extended their greetings and good wishes to the people of the state on the occasion of 60th Independence Day.

The Governor in his message, paid glowing tribute to all known and unknown martyrs and brave sons of India who laid their lives for the sake of country's Independence. The Governor has also said that some terrorists and destructive forces have been attempting to put our country's unity and integrity in peril. ''We must not only remain on full vigil but also foil their anti-national designs.'' Mr Yadav asked people to work together to develop Uttar Pradesh into a prosperous state. The CM felt a storng UP would help India emerge stronger in the comity of nations.

Govt Securities Bill taken up in RS amid protests, walkout

New Delhi, Aug 14 (UNI) Amid a walkout by SP, AIADMK and TDP members, the Rajya Sabha today passed the Government Securities Bill, 2006 that seeks to amend the law relating to management of Government securities (G-Secs) by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Earlier, two other Bills -- Central Silk Board (Amendment) Bill, 2005, and The Produce Cess Laws (Abolition) Bill, 2006, -- were passed without much discussion in the absence of adequate number.....

Privacy must but not at cost of right to Information

New Delhi, Aug 14: The CPI(M) today demanded setting up a House committee to suggest uniform guidelines to protect the privacy of an individual while safeguarding the freedom of expression with no encroachments on the free flow of information.''Till such guidelines are drawn, the Honorable Speaker may form a House Committee for the purpose,'' CPI(M) Polit bureau member Sitaram Yechury told newspersons.He said his party would also discuss the matter with other political parties, civil society and public.....

National Open Taekwando from Sept 7

New Delhi, Aug 14 (UNI) In a bid to give more exposure to the players before the Doha Asian Games, Taekwando Federation of India will organise the third National Open Taekwando Championship at the Talkatora Indoor Stadium here from September 7-9. The championship, to be held in association with Delhi Taekwando Association, will be open for senior and junior (men and women) players of all categories, a release said today. UNI DH PM PM1628.....
