Two SIMI activists remanded to police custody

Mumbai, Aug 14 (UNI) A local court today remanded till August 28, two alleged activists of Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), who were arrested last night by the crime branch, to police custody for their alleged involvement in unlawful activities.

Moving a remand application police prosecutor Tariq Trankiwal said that the accused, Irfan Saeed (24) and Najeeb Bakali (41) were active members of banned SIMI and it was also believed that they were associates of wanted accused Raheel Ansari.

The prosecution wants their custodial interrogation for further investigations, he said.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate S Y Shisode then remanded them to police custody.

Saeed was arrested from Santacruz in western suburbs while Bakali was arrested from Mahim in north central Mumbai.

Both were also involved in conducting meetings of SIMI activists in the city, several incriminating documents were seized from their possession.

Bhandara, Gondia faced with flood threat

Mumbai, Aug 14 (UNI) The heightened fury of the rains since August 5 has left 330 people dead in the State while 24 others are still reported missing.
