Tributes paid to former Pondy CM

Pondicherry, Aug 14(UNI) Tributes were paid to former Pondicherry chief minister Edward Goubert on his 27th death anniversary here today.

Pondicherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy, his Cabinet collegues, Legislators and senior officals of the administration, were among others, who garlanded the statue of Mr Goubert at the Bharathi Park here to mark the occasion.

Floral tributes were also paid to a decorated portrait of Mr Goubert at the office of the Pondicherry Pradesh Congress Committee(PCC). PCC President P Shanmugham and party office bearers paid homage to the late leader on the occasion.

Munda lambasts opposition assures to complete full term

Jamshedpur, Aug 14 (UNI)Jharkhand chief minister Arjun Munda charged the opposition in the state of disrupting the development works of the government and said the people would give the befitting reply in appropriate time. Kicking off the BJP's Life Membership Fund Programme at Adityapur in Kharsawan-Seraikela district last evening the chief minister reiterated that his government would complete its full term as it is 'safe and secured'. Waugh's wife released from hospital; recovering at home

Sydney, Aug 14 (UNI) Former Aussie cricket captain Steve Waugh's wife Lynette has been released from hospital and is recovering at home after undergoing life-saving brain surgery. In a short statement, Waugh said Lynette was making ''wonderful progress'' after being released from the Prince of Wales Private Hospital here. The 40-year-old mother of three underwent an operation last week to remove a blood clot caused by a brain haemorrhage. ''We are so happy to release this.....

Proteas join World Cup sponsors' uproar

Sydney, Aug 14 (UNI) South Africa has joined Australia to protest against a controversial decision of next year's World Cup organisers that demands that both sides dump their sponsors for the showpiece event. Representatives from Standard Bank expressed their dismay at having to put their long-time deal with the South African team on hold for the tournament to be held in the West Indies next March and April. Australia had earlier protested.....
