Special committee to probe female foeticide case in Jaipur

Jaipur, Aug 14 (UNI) The state government has formed a special probe committee to look into the female foeticide case that came into light here on Saturday.

The dead body of a newborn girl wrapped in clothes was found underneath a car in the Mahila Chikitsalaya hospital premises in busy Chandpole area on Saturday, which created a sensation in the area.

Dr Bina Bhatnagar, the hospital administrator and head of the probe committee told UNI today, ''The investigations are on. We have a lead that the newborn girl was not born in this hospital. The police and the committee are, however, trying to ascertain the facts. The records are being scrutinised.'' The police feel the newborn was dumped as she was a result of an illicit relationship.

About preventing such incidents in the hospital premises in the future, Dr Bhatnagar said, ''Security has been beefed up to thwart such incidents. However, with thousands of people in the hospital , it is difficult to take any strong measures. We have told the guards to keep an eye on any suspicious character in the hospital.'' Despite awareness campaigns and timely action action against the guilty, the recent spurt in the female foeticide cases in the state is giving nightmares to the state government.

Three female foetuses were found floating in the Fatehsagar lake in Udaipur recently giving credence to the incredibly low awareness about this outrageuos crime.

The state health department has set up monitoring committees at all district levels to keep a check on such crimes. Special instructions have been issued to each district Chief Health and Medical Officer to monitor the situation and report any such case immediately.

A joint director-level committee based in Jaipur zone has also been formed to monitor the overall situation.
