Shillongites says celebrates I-Day celebration, ignor bandh

Shillong, Aug 14 (UNI) Luciana Jana, a working mother of two, says she will pay no heed to the ritualistic bandh imposed by proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) banning people from attending the 60th Independence Day celebration tomorrow.

''We will celebrate Independence Day. Let those who have called for bandh happily stay indoors. I will take my kids along,'' Ms Jana appealing Shillongites to come out and carry the tri-colour.

Like Ms Luciana, many others in this multi-ethnic city are fed-up with the ritualistic calls for boycott of National Days.

Several college students like Samantha, Ravi, Jayashree, Idashisha and a host of other friends have decided to come out and celebrate I-Day celebration.

''I feel Shillongites should break this jinx and march down to Jawaharlal Nehru Sports Complex and celebrate I-Day,'' Ms Samantha asserted.

Chief Minister JD Rymbai will unfurl the tri-colour at Jawaharlal Nehru Sports Complex tomorrow.

Meanwhile, State home minister RG Lyngdoh has appealed to the people to ignore the call for a 24-hour-bandh given by the outlawed HNLC and urged the citizens to come out and take part in the Independence Day celebrations.
