Powell to run 100 metres in Japan

TOKYO, Aug 14 (Reuters) Joint world record holder Asafa Powell will run in the 100 metres at next month's Super Track and Field meeting in Japan, organisers said today.

The Jamaican will be making his first trip to Japan for the September 24 event in Yokohama.

Commonwealth champion Powell is currently on an 11-race unbeaten run this year after winning the London grand prix last month.

The 23-year-old's world record of 9.77 seconds in Athens in 2005 was equalled by American Justin Gatlin in May before Powell matched it again a month later in Gateshead.

World and Olympic champion Gatlin is facing a lifetime ban after testing positive for the male sex hormone testosterone.
