Opening match of Triseries likely to be washed out due to rain

Colombo, Aug 14 (UNI) Incessant overnight rain has virtually ruled out any possibility of play between South Africa and Sri Lanka in the opening tie of the Unitech Cup tri-series here today.

Play was scheduled to start at 1430 hours IST but heavy overnight rain and an early morning thunderstorm drenched the Premadasa Stadium.

Although the prospect of play remains remote, officials have decided to have a ground inspection at 1600 hrs IST.

If the match is called off, Sri Lanka and South Africa will play tomorrow, since a reserve day has been kept aside for all seven matches of the series, including the final on August 29.

Meanwhile, weather forecast predicts more rain for the next three days.
