Massive security measures on I Day in Delhi

New Delhi, Aug 14 (UNI) Massive security arrangements have been put in place in the capital for the 60th Independence Day celebrations tomorrow.

Commandos from the Delhi Police, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), National Security Guard (NSG) besides other personnel have been deployed in view of the increased threat of terrorist activities.

The Delhi Police said the air space in and around the Red fort would be a 'no-fly zone' from early morning to the conclusion of the Independence Day function.

Suitable air defence measures with the help of the Indian Air Force have been put in place to foil any designs to disrupt I-Day functions through the aerial route, it said.

Delhi police has banned cell phones, cameras, bags, water bottles and transistors at the Red Fort during the function.

In addition, special mobilisation of PCR vans and Omni motorcycles for strengthening patrolling and security vigil at sensitive places is being done along with Quick Reaction Teams (QRT) and armed pickets being deployed for crowded areas, Metro stations, temples and Inter-State Bus Terminuses (ISBT), the police said.

As part of the process of beefing up security for the Delhi Metro, an additional 3500 personnel have been deployed at various stations.

Snipers, metal detectors, X-ray machines and security cameras have been deployed at crowded market places and shopping malls.

The Special Cell and local police are keeping a strict watch on the borders and anti-sabotage checks, anti-explosives checks etc were been done at all important temples and vital installations.
