Lucknow railway station under 'unprecedented' security cover

Lucknow, Aug 14 (UNI) Never before security has been put in place at Charbagh railway station here following recovery of a bag of one of the two LeT terrorists arrested in New Delhi last week.

The Lucknow railway station, which was already under heavy surveillance since Mumbai blasts last month, now has an unprecendented security cover, the arrangements of the kind normally seen at airports.

The security was further strengthened after recovery of a bag from Lucknow railway station yesterday. After a Delhi Police Special Cell team recovered the bag from the cloak room yesterday afternoon, railway authorities have decided not to let out the lockers without proper identification of passengers.

The Delhi Police team had opened the locker of Abrar Ahmed alias Mohammed Issa at the Charbagh railway station cloak room here in the presence of Abrar Ahmed and his accomplice Abu Anas, police sources said.

The vigil at the Lucknow station was intensified as the two LeT men had reportedly booked their tickets from Lucknow for New Delhi and carried the RDX from here. They were arrested outside the New Delhi railway station while boarding an auto-rickshaw.

Police sources said the Delhi Police was trying to ascertain the route of the 2 kg of RDX and five detonators recovered from the duo.

The posibility that the RDX and the detonators recovered from LeT terrorists being handed over to them in Lucknow cannot be ruled out hence the strict security measures at Lucknow Railway station, sources added.
