Israeli army kills Hizbollah man in Lebanon-reports

JERUSALEM, Aug 14 (Reuters) Israeli troops shot dead a Hizbollah fighter in Lebanon today after he opened fire on them, marking the first casualty since a ceasefire went into effect, local media reported.

Army Radio and the Haaretz newspaper's Web site said the shooting took place in southwest Lebanon.

A military spokesman said the man was among a group of ''armed terrorists'' who approached the army position, but he declined to say whether the gunman had been killed.

''We will continue to defend our forces acting in the area,'' the spokesman said.

Israeli strike kills 3 in Gaza after rocket fire

GAZA, Aug 14: An Israeli air strike killed three Palestinians in the northern Gaza Strip today shortly after two rockets were fired into Israel from the area, Palestinian doctors said.The Israeli army said it had targeted militants who had launched the rockets. Afghan police kill 11 Taliban, blast kills 4 NATO

KABUL, Aug 14: Afghan security forces killed 11 Taliban militants in a clash in the volatile south today, officials said, hours after a bomb blast in the capital wounded four NATO soldiers.The bomb in Kabul was believed to have been strapped to a bicycle and detonated by remote control as a military convoy passed by, a spokesman for the NATO-led peacekeeping force said.
