ISKCON to celebrate Janmashtami on Aug 16

Visakhapatnam, Aug 14 (UNI) The Visakhapatnam unit of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) would celebrate Janmashtami on August 16.

Talking to newspersons here today, Iskcon's Centre President Samba Das said thousands of devotees were expected to participate in the programme. About 700 children were likely to participate in the competitions meant for them.

Mr Das said the first phase of the temple building project was expected to be to be completed by January 2007.

Heavy rains cause extensive damage in MP, 2 killed

Bhopal, Aug 14 (UNI) Alarmed over the death of two children and the extensive damage caused by overnight heavy rains in the state capital and adjoining areas, the Madhya Pradesh government today requisitioned the Army to assist the civil administration in rescue and relief operations. Army has been deployed in different localities of the city, Bhopal Collector S K Mishra told UNI today. At least two children were killed and as many washed away in drains.....

KARACHI, Aug 14 (Reuters) Pakistan bowlers Mohammad Asif and Rana Naved have been cleared to join the tour squad in England and could be considered for the final test at the Oval starting on Thursday, chief selector Wasim Bari said today.
