Elaborate security arrangement for Independence Day celebration in S

Gangtok, Aug 14 (UNI) Sikkim police intensified security arrangements to ensure the Independence Day celebration in the state incident free tomorrow.

DIG Range Askhaya Sachdeva said about two companies of Sikkim Armed Police will be deployed at Palzor Stadium, the main venue for the state level function where Chief Minister Pawan Chamling is scheduled to unfurl the national flag.

Security has been stepped up at Rangpo, Malli and Reshi, the three entry points to the state to avoid any untoward incident.

All the police stations have been alerted and policemen in plain clothes have been deployed to keep a vigil on suspicious elements.

All hotels and lodges have been kept under surveillance and the police are in touch with the intelligence agencies to ensure that the independence day celebration passes off smoothly.

Mr Sachdeva said this year the police are extra cautious and do not want to take any chance in view of the recent bomb blasts in Mumbai and the threat of possible terrorist attack.

A high alert has been sounded in Asom even as the Army declared suspension of operations since last night amidst a spurt in United Liberation Front Asom's offensives.
