Congress demands dismissal of Bihar Energy Minister

Patna, Aug 14 (UNI) The State Congress today demanded sacking of Bihar's Energy minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav, who has been declared 'absconder' by a local court.

A delegation under chief spokesman of state Congress, Prem Chandra Mishra called on Bihar Governor R S Gavai and urged him to remove the minister from the Bihar Cabinet.

Mr Mishra also demanded sacking of Sugar Cane Minister Nitish Mishra as he held an office of profit despite being a minister in Bihar government.

The attention of the Governor was also drawn towards the alleged link of state JD(U) President Rajeev Ranjan Singh with gangster Ashok Mahto.

The Energy Minister was declared absconder by a local court in connection with a case filed by an employee of Bihar Hydro Power Corporation.

Israel-Hizbollah truce 'generally holding: Annan

Lebanese pessimistic on lasting peace with Israel

BEIRUT, Aug 14 (Reuters) A UN-brokered truce has succeeded in silencing the guns between Israel and Hizbollah, but peace along the Lebanese-Israeli border is unlikely to endure, many Lebanese say. Both sides accepted last week's unanimously adopted UN Resolution 1701 -- but only after attaching caveats that appear to make a permanent peace less likely. Family, community, state source of violence against women:UNIFEM

Kabul, Aug 14 (UNI) A new study on women, conducted by UNIFEM said the family, the community and the state are the primary sources of violence against women in Afghanistan. Even though traditionally the family constitutes the only source of security in conservative Afghanistan, the study, relased here today, found that 82 per cent of the violence faced by women was from within the family.
