CBI officials bag President's medal

New Delhi, Aug 14 (UNI) Joint Director Ashok Kumar at Chennai and three other top officers of the CBI have been awarded prestigious President's Medal for distinguished service on the occasion of Independence day, 2006.

Deputy Inspectors General(DIGs) Rajwinder Singh Bhatti (New Delhi), Shatrujeet Singh Kapoor (CBI Academy at Ghaziabad), Amrendra Kumar Singh (Ranchi), Tanuja Srivastava (SU, New Delhi) and seven other officials have bagged Police Medal for Meritorious Service.

The President's Police Medal winners also include Mr T Subhas Chandra Bose, SP (SCB) Chennai, Mr Mukesh Chander Sahni, Additional SP, (EOU-V), New Delhi, Baldev Singh Dogra, Deputy SP (SCB) Chandigarh.

Mr Javed Siraj (Addl SP, SCR-II, New Delhi), Mr Partha Sarthi Bose (Dy SP, SCB, Kolkata), Mr Tapan Jyoti Ghosh (Dy SP, ACB, Kolkata), Mr Ashok Kumar Velappan Nair (Dy SP, ACB, Chennai), Mr Madan Singh (Inspector, Dehradun), Mr Saibal Kumar Tripathy (Inspector, ACB Kolkata) and Mr Sant Lal Sharma (Sub-Inspector, ACU-II, New Delhi) were awarded the Police Medal, a CBI release said.

Unprecedented security in blast hit Varanasi

Varanasi, Aug 14 (UNI) Unprecedented security arrangements have been made in this holy city on the eve of Independence Day, especially in the wake of an international alert about prospective terror strikes in the country. Students' strike in Bengal

Kolkata, Aug 14 (UNI) Most of the educational institutions in West Bengal remained closed today following a strike by the CPI(M)-backed Students Federation of India(SFI) while the rival Chhatra Parishad observed a 'black day' in protest against the death of Bengal Engineering and Science University(BESU) student Soumik Basu during a campus violence. Official sources said classes were not held in schools, colleges and universities in most parts of the state because of the strike call......

RCA umpiring seminar concludes

Jaipur, Aug 14 (UNI) A three day seminar on umpiring standards and procedures orgnaised by the Rajasthan Cricket Association concluded today in Udaipur. According to RCA about 80 delegates from various districts participated in the seminar. M S shekhawat, RS Rathur and BL sharma of the BCCI umpiring panel were among the facilitators training the delegates of the standards and procedures followed by the ICC for international cricket.
